JOB TITLE: Pastoral Carer
JOB TYPE: Part Time – 2 days a week (15 hours)
LOCATION: St Mark’s Theological Centre and able to attend events in the Canberra Goulburn region
SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Director of Embracing Ministries
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Embracing Ministries is an agency of the Canberra Goulburn Anglican Diocese. We minister and provide wellbeing services to young people with disability, their families and carers. We also educate, train, and equip parishes, church agencies, and educational institutions within the Diocese about people with disabilities, and enable people with disabilities to participate in the life of the church and the wider community.
As the Pastoral Carer for the parents and carers in the community, you would be required to:
- Connect and meet with families to provide empathy, support and guidance. This may be of a spiritual nature.
- Active participation in our WhatsApp support groups
- Attend Embracing Ministries events to support and guide the conversation. These would include occasional weekend work.
- Invite people to our events to ensure they feel included.
- Other duties as negotiated with the Director
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
- A previous counselling or pastoral support position, with demonstrated outcomes in improving the love and care people have experienced.
- Whilst a counselling or pastoral care qualification is preferred, relevant pastoral care experience in church activities will be recognised
- Previous experience working with people with Disability and their families
Experience:
- A previous counselling or pastoral support position, with demonstrated outcomes in improving the love and care people have experienced.
Skills:
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Organised and able to meet deadlines
- A heart for supporting families that are navigating life with children who have disability

- Support families in a timely and loving manner.
- Work within a team of people who have different working styles
ENGAGEMENT CONDITIONS:
Remuneration – $45 – 50 an hour and as an employee of the Canberra Goulburn Anglican Diocese, plus super.
